I tried to reproduce the bug by following your directions, but I get a different error. Its not at all a crash, but it is a bug, and has something to do with XKB. Perhaps your directions could be more specific? The less information we have to work with the longer it takes for someone to confirm it. Can you attach the results of # xprop -root |grep XKB # gconftool-2 -R /desktop/gnome/periperals/keyboard/kbd to your bug report? If you really want to talk to the guys who will probably confirm your bug, you should ask nicely for help from #gnome-love on IRC.
