So, you have a distribute volume.
When you add a new brick - it will increase the total size of the volume, but you need to rebalance the volume before being able to use the new storage.

Don't forget to format the brick with inode size of 512 (for xfs -> mkfs.xfs -i size=512 ...).
Using relative/noatime mount option reduces the I/O to the brick device.
