What if you cris-cross your mounts.  In theory it shouldn't matter because FUSE writes to all the bricks I believe, b/c the initial contact it is trying to pull the vol file about all the known peers.

SO....

Fwl1                                Fwl2
mounts vol of fw2,                 mounts vol of fw1

additionally you could add in /etc/fstab a secondary attempt host with the option  backupvolfile-server= ?  Is the volume on the same ports between the bricks?

Just ideas, nothing to lose in attempts.
