Is the community consensus to turn off all vendor raid feature added
tools?

RAID is useful, some use it, some not, depends from case to case. I for one host my bricks on one big RAID6 (also lsi, it can be stupid at times, like switching from write-back to write-through in some scenarios and hitting me hard performance-wise).
