I don't see why.  80 columns has been the standard layout for
something like 40 or 50 years or so.  It is the standard punch card
width and required to display Fortran code fitted to this width
(column 73 to 80 are ignored in non-free-format Fortran and used for
line identification).

All people using smaller terminals are used to wrapping trouble.  We
really don't need to go overboard supporting Commodore 64 users with
git.
