  Yes, it's definitive, not having the < > is wrong as per RFC.

  Exactly, the reason is very simple, I use mutt as a MUA, and for
obvious reasons < and > are not "word-chars" in my terminal emulator, so
when I cut&paste them I don't have them. And I'm ready to bet that I'm
not the only one doing that, and having the same "issue".

  And sometimes I forget to add the < > and Very Bad Things™ occur :)
