Hmph, most likely lost in the noise.  I do not think this patch
would hurt (you cannot have <<something>> as a valid message id
anyway).

I am not aware of git-am (assuming that is what you are talking
about) caring anything about message ids.  Remind me if I missed
some subtle issues, as I think what your patch and Pierre's try
to achieve is sensible.
