Google Summer of Code Mentor Summit 2007

Git has been invited to participate in the 2007 GSoC mentor summit
and I will be going to represent us. Dscho might also attend.

The purpose of the summit is to bring together mentors from all[*1*]
of the organizations who participated in Google Summer of Code 2007
to discuss:

  * How to improve the program
  * How Google can do more for open source
  * How mentors and representatives of development communities can
    help one another

I'm interested in any and all input anyone might like to share
regarding the above topics and also regarding our involvement in
the GSoC 2007 program. Please feel free to respond to the list or
directly to me. Some of the topics from 2006[*2*] might give you
an idea or two.

The summit is being held in the unconference style[*3*] so the
attendees are trying to organize the sessions based upon communal
interest. Some pre-planning is going on through a wiki, but I
imagine there will also be a lot of ad-hoc sessions starting up
throughout the day.

I'd like to know what (if anything) the Git community would like
me to raise while I am there, and what I should be looking out for
to report back my take of events on.

The Bazaar team has also been invited, but I'm not sure yet if
they have anyone who will be able to attend. Subversion wasn't,
so it looks like only two of the three SCMs in GSoC 2007 will
be represented there. A whole host of Git using orgs have also
been invited; many of them have at least one person lurking on
this list. So it could be an interesting chance to talk to some
folks face-to-face.

I'm going to be out there for a little bit of time beyond just the
GSoC mentor summit (miday-Friday through Sunday) so I may try to chat
up some folks outside of the summit about more Git-specific topics.

*1*: Not quite all organizations were invited. Google limited it
to those who were able to return their test^H^H^H^Hsurveys on
time and then picked a subset of those, as they have limited
funds available to run the summit. A good percentage of the
organizations appear to have been invited. We're fortunate
     to have been included.
