So putting:

  ROOT=contrib/mw-to-git
  git-remote-mediawiki: FORCE
          @make -C ../.. SCRIPT_PERL=$(ROOT)/$@.perl $(ROOT)/$@

in contrib/mw-to-git/Makefile would already work? Neat.
