Most people that are using that information are likely *not* reading the wiki. They're looking at some search result for a project whose pagerank is being partially boosted by the Git wiki. If we turn on nofollow on the wiki we remove the wiki from the link tree on the web, and turn it into a leaf node. That's just not worth it, especially since it seems to do very little to stop vandalism (which we're not even discussing here). Wikipedia still gets a lot of linkspam after they turned on rel=nofollow, but the web is poorer as a result since Wikipedia is now one giant leaf node on the web.
