which suggests you had an old pango release.
Here (Mageia 8) i have harfbuzz 2.8 and pango 1.48, for what it's
worth. but the error seems more about mismatched versions of pango and
harfbuzz to me.

Upped Pango to 1.4.8 to no avail. Will try HarfBuzz next.
