Hello Irina: It don't know if it would help, but there is a reasonable pdf "beginner's guide" in French with a free download at http://www.scribd.com/doc/7909512/Debuter-Avec-Gimp-2-6 The same group http://www.aljacom.com/~gimp/ has put together an easier to install---so they say---windows "remix" of the Gimp with easy to install French documentation. Maybe this can give some ideas. (Note that I don't quite understand why they felt the need to have their own documentation, but apparently the remix was motivated on the basis of easier installation. I can't judge, given that I don't use Windows.)
