You are aware that you can drag a path from the GIMP Paths dialog into Inkscape and edit it there? Unfortunately I can't tell you how you can easily get that path back into GIMP. But if I remember correctly, you should be able to drop an SVG path on GIMP. So if Inkscape provided a way to drag out the path, you'd be all set.
