Yes. gimp-2-4 is the stable branch. But we are not likely going to doanother release from that branch.

The 2.5.x development release are done from trunk, which is going to bereleased as version 2.6.0 very soon now. So the answer to your questionis "both".
I am somewhat confused about this question. Isn't that how pretty muchall GNOME applications are doing it? What is causing the confusion here?
