I think you mean HIG, the Human Interface Guidelines. But what you are saying has nothing to do with the GNOME HIG. Perhaps you should read this document at some point. Anyway, in my opinion the GNOME project does a good job by aiming for simplicity even if this means that sometimes a feature is removed. We don't necessarily need to duplicate that, but we can learn a lot from it.
