Actually, if you want to use something like xfig, consider instead
using tgif - in the same way as emacs uses lisp internally, tgif is a
vector graphics editor which uses prolog internally.  It's very
powerful, but a lot of people don't know about it, which is a shame.

(The GIF in the name has nothing to do with the patent-encumbered
