(dunno the correct name), but here is how you can reproduce the error.
file->new, create a new file 84x50 pixels *transparent* (it seems to
depend on the size. Then, in the image window, click on the "locator"
(lower right corner). I get this message each time I do this:
initial_sub_region:: error :: src->w * (src->bytes + 1) > 512
