actually there are several Gnome projects (http://l10n.gnome.org/teams/pt_BR/), including the Gimp Manual (http://l10n.gnome.org/languages/pt_BR/gnome-gimp/doc/) we are translating.
Feel comfortable in helping us, we'd be happy.

I am the maintainer of the translation of GIMP - the program,
and just as of a few months ago, a small team started working
on teh translation of the manual -
