You need to have the development headers & libraries for libgmp and libmpfr installed - on Ubuntu, you can "apt-get install libgmp-dev libmpfr-dev". Alternatively, you can use apt's "build-dep" functionality, which should install the development libraries you need to build a certain package; try "apt-get build-dep gcc-4.4" and you hopefully won't run into dependency problems like this again (I know you're trying to build 4.2, but I run 11.10 and I don't see 4.2 in the repositories - building the dependencies for 4.4 should do just the trick).
