Linux is a kernel, not an operating system. You'll have to be more
specific about which distribution (and which version of it) you
installed, since they can differ substantially.

CentOS 6.2 on a Dell PowerEdge 1900 using Intel Xeon 5130 dual core chip.

The CentOS forums might also provide you with some help here. My general experience is that being involved in the forums for your particular distribution can often be very helpful.
