The MinGW gcc-4.4.0 release notes say :

  -static-libgcj works better than the default of dynamically linking.

Maybe some day I will have interest and energy enough for doing some
testing with the GCJs 4.4.7, 4.5.3 and 4.7.0 (with built 'libgcj')
for MinGW I had "only built"...
