Installing gcc after modifying source

Hi,
I made one change in gcc-4.1.2 source code.
I added prfintf(" TOPLEVEL\n"); statement in
toplev_main() function in toplevel.c file. Of course I
added #include<stdio.h> in that file.

1)I tried to execute "make bootstrap" command after
configuration. I got the error shown below.
What could be the reason?

2)I think general installation commands can be used to
install modified gcc source. Am I right?
-----------------------------------------------------
make[1]: Leaving directory

Configuring in ./intl

configure: current value: -g -O2

configure: error: run `make distclean' and/or `rm

make: *** [configure-intl] Error 1
