Category: win32 Group: None Status: Open Priority: 5 Private: No Submitted By: Jamie Edwards (jamieedwards) Assigned to: Thomas Butter (tbutter) Summary: Can't Connect to SIP Messaging Service in 2.0.0 Beta1 Initial Comment: I am using 2.0.0 Beta 1 and I am trying to use the SIP messaging to connect to our corporate instant messaging server. Formerly, I used Windows Messenger 5.1. The configuration I am using in Windows Messenger is: Checked "My contacts include users of a SIP Communications Service" Server Name or IP Address: instantmessage.noamer.<company>.com Connect Using: TCP Sign-In Name: jamie.edwards@<company>.com Username: <NT Domain>\jamieedwards Password: <My NT Domain Password> I am not exactly sure how these options map to the options in GAIM. I have tried using my Sign-In Name in the "Screen Name" field, but it fails to connect (it also shows the name of the account as jamie.edwards@<company>.com@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx<company>.com, that doesn't seem right). I also tried variations of my Username (with and without the NT domain in it). I am currently unable to determine the exact cause of the connection failure, as it crashes when it fails to connect (see bug 1392791 - datallah assured me that this should be taken care of now - not sure where to download a newer version that doesn't crash though). Am I trying to connect to a service that isn't compatible with this version of GAIM or is this supposed to work properly? I would assume that our instant messaging service should be compatible as a colleague of mine uses Trillian Pro with the SIP instant messaging plugin and is able to connect without any difficulties. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Alexander Graef (graef_alexander) Date: 2006-10-31 15:08 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1030440 I didn't investigate, but most likely Live Communications Server uses some kind of NTLM/LanMan or Kerberos, mainly because Windows Messenger uses the credentials provided by the user at logon time. This is the same authentication used by IIS for internal/domain authentication. At logon time, the users credentials are stored as a hash which is used to login to all services which accept that kind of authentication: IIS with NTLM authentication, Windows Messenger via SIP (Live Communications Server), Exchange via RPC and/or RPC-over-HTTP(s), SMB/CIFS, etc. There are NTLM authentication plugins (i.e. for Apache 1.3 and 2.0) available, which contain the necessary code to do the NTLM challenge-response stuff. http://modntlm.sourceforge.net/ http://mod-auth-sspi.sourceforge.net/ Regards, Alex ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Jamie Edwards (jamieedwards) Date: 2006-01-11 15:17 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1414986 We do...guess I'm going to have to drop GAIM and pay to use Trillian then...its a shame because I really like GAIM. Are you guys at least working on getting that authentication method working? If so, then I'll check back regularly. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Thomas Butter (tbutter) Date: 2006-01-10 13:57 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=629117 Does your company use Microsoft Live Communication Server? It uses a non-standard (and undocumented) authentication method which is currently not supported by gaim. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=200235&aid=1397068&group_id=235 ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Using Tomcat but need to do more?
