Category: win32 Group: None Status: Closed Priority: 5 Submitted By: Peepsalot (peepsalot) Assigned to: Daniel Atallah (datallah) Summary: Can clicking links open a new window? Initial Comment: It is very frustrating to me that gaim uses the latest browser window to load a page when you click a link from inside a message. Can it be loaded into new browser windows only, or at least make a right-click option to do this? Just today, I was typing a rather long message to someone on one of my favorite discussion forums. A friend IM'd a link to me and I clicked it(forgetting the behavior of gaim) and lost the message I was typing. :( Thanks for any help ---------------------------------------------------------------------- >Comment By: Daniel Atallah (datallah) Date: 2005-11-20 15:31 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=325843 Earlier versions are the same. On non-win32, non-GNOME environments, there is a browser pref because it can't be done using the desktop API. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: abscissaord (abscissaord) Date: 2005-11-20 14:49 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1383866 Thanks for the comment. Just out of curiosity, how does the earlier verions of gaim handle this in its Preferences settings? I read some other posts that mentioned a "Browswer" section under Preferences that allows users specify how to handle links. Thanks again. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Daniel Atallah (datallah) Date: 2005-11-20 14:44 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=325843 All gaim does is tell Windows to show the URL - anything that happens after that is outside our control. AFAIK, there isn't a generic "show in new window" windows setting - it is browser specific. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: abscissaord (abscissaord) Date: 2005-11-20 14:36 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1383866 I am running WinXP, gaim v1.5.0, and IE and was having the same issue as peepsalot. I was able to fix the problem as suggested by itchysoft_ant. I would like to know, however, is it possible to manually modify gaim pref/registry to get it to open links in new windows as opposed to change IE settings. Thanks. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Ant (itchysoft_ant) Date: 2005-08-26 13:19 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1186610 If youre using IE as opposed to FireFox, the option you want is : Tools > Internet Options > Advanced > Browsing > Reuse windows for launching shortcuts ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Daniel Atallah (datallah) Date: 2005-08-26 12:53 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=325843 As warp9pnt9 said, this is just how your browser is configured, if you want it to open new windows, you just need to configure it to do so. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: L W (warp9pnt9) Date: 2005-08-26 12:02 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=706287 Well FWIW, I use Firefox, and don't configure Gaim to do anything, so it uses most recent window. I configure Firefox to open new tabs in most recent window. The result is I think what you would desire. I for one much prefer tabbed browsing to multiple windows. However if multiple windows are what you desire, or you don't use Firefox, or a browser with a similar new tab feature, then I have no idea. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=200235&aid=1274171&group_id=235 ------------------------------------------------------- This SF.Net email is sponsored by the JBoss Inc.
