Ah, so it's opposite. :)

I assume he wants the latin from the Chinese so that it is monospaced in 
the same fashion? Otherwise, the fonts made for latin text are typically 
far superior.

I know what I'm about to say is totally silly, but I once managed to 
achieve what I wanted by deleting the latin characters from the Chinese 
font altogether.  Then I found a slightly cleaner fontconfig way of 
doing it.

But the fact that it behaves differently by locale is problematic when 
the config was specified. In my case, it would be ideal if it were 
always treated as in en_US.
