I confirm that this reproduces with my Solaris 10, sparc,fontconfig-2.4.2 ( download from sunfreeware.com ).
A quick fix: copy all True Type fonts into /usr/share/fonts and runfc-cache -fv .If there are some True Types fonts under, for example/usr/share/fonts/some_dir, fc-cache -fv will give such error.
