When I boot, the transition from plymouth to KDM occurs immediately. There is no waiting. It is when I power off, that I see the could not write bytes: broken pipe lines. There must be at least a dozen, while the power off process appears to hang for a few seconds, before plymouth again kicks in to show the graphical animation during power off.
