So while it is frustrating for you, the problem is that the nVidia drivers don't yet work with the X that is shipped with rawhide. And it should be no surprise that a close source driver is broken in rawhide. So when nVidia fixes the driver to work with the new X then you should be able to use that driver again. The open-source nouveau driver is not feature complete with power saving or 3d support and this is a known issue and people are working on it. Additionally, the intel drivers and radeons below r600 do actually work correctly with flightgear and other 3d apps. So there are ways to run them properly, just not yet with your video device.
