You've gotten answers from very knowledgeable people--just to give a
practical example. I updated yesterday (after not having updated for a
few days) and X stopped working. 

I updated again tonight, and it's fine.  

So, if you asked me yesterday, I would have said no (on my
hardware--judging from the forums, it seemed to mostly hit onboard Intel
cards), but today, I'd say, sure, why not? 


I think Rahul's advice was probably the best, though I admire 
Adam's temerity.
