OK- Thanks! This makes sense. I'm going to try a secondary route:

OSS --> ALSA --> Pulse Audio

If I can get something wanting to use OSS to use an OSS to ALSA plugin,
and then have that, in turn, route to Pulse Audio, maybe I can get
Workstation to make some noise.

Will get back to this list with results...
