Yes

KDM should really come up if you put that line into that
>  file. (Careful, it's DISPLAYMANAGER="KDE", not DISPLAYMANAGER="KDM".)

Well, it turns out that indeed KDM comes up after a reboot, and allows
me to log into KDE.
