Dear all,
after removing kdepim and other stuff, kde updates got

because startx defaults to GNOME, even though KDE was
set as the one :(
[olivares@localhost ~]$ cat nokde-1.txt

[olivares@localhost ~]$ startkde
xsetroot: unable to open display ''
startkde is not an alternative to startx
Do you have a problem logging via kdm, gdm or xdm?
_I_ would do so.
What I have done when I found myself running twm (there is very little
one can do inside twm, except start xterm), is this:
1. killall two.
At this point window decorations (title bar, borders etc) vanish.
2. startkde
An alternative that works (AFAIK) only on RH systems is to login to
whatever, then run switchdesk
so if startx gets you into gnome, run switchdesk to choose something
else, then logout and try again.
