If yes then this is not wrong reporting and an underlying cause
is now identified but the issue is still there.  A temporary
workaroud is to drop '-c' option to pidof in /etc/init.d/functions
although this may, or may not, have other unwanted side-effects;
depending on how and which processes you are running.

That is the bug and report that I was referencing. I live with it for now. I figured I'd mention it since it could be a reason others would refrain from installing the new kernel because of it.
