Similar symptoms on boot/install with the nv driver. was only able to
get graphics to work after install by booting to text mode and switched
to the mesa driver manually.

I started a thread on it here, and was told to file the bug with xorg.

I filed this bug

which was considered a duplicate of this one

I certainly think they are the same as your problem.
