kernel-xen-hypervisor and Gnome/GStreamer Volume Control

The volume control is reporting:

"The volume control did not find any elements and/or devices to control. This means either that you don't have the right GStreamer plugins installed, or that you don't have a sound card configured.

You can remove the volume control from the panel by right-clicking the speaker icon on the panel and selecting "Remove From Panel" from the menu."

kernel-xen-hypervisor-2.6.15-1.43_FC5 is installed. Everything works normally with kernel-2.6.15-1.1915_FC5 (and all previous kernels)

The card is (correctly) identified as an ESS ES1983S-3i card using sound module snd-maestro3. The modules are loaded and I can see them when doing lsmod while running kernel-xen-hypervisor-2.6.15-1.43_FC5, but cannot get any sound output.
