OK I transposed the letters in the command it is vgdisplay, what are the

[/snip]

btw. is this helpful?

[root@frodo ~]# lvmdiskscan
 /dev/sda1 [ 101,94 MB]
 /dev/sda2 [ 8,37 GB] LVM physical volume
 /dev/sdb1 [ 16,94 GB] LVM physical volume
 0 disks
 1 partition
0 LVM physical volume whole disks
 2 LVM physical volumes
Also does o/p of pvdisplay show 1 or 2 PVs?
NOW it shows 2:

[root@frodo ~]# pvdisplay

  Total PE 4337
  Free PE 4337
  Allocated PE 0
  PV UUID WyCdOD-T3fq-r7gc-pFon-e3C1-Ay8n-EdGyEE

  --- Physical volume ---
  PV Name /dev/sda2
  VG Name VolGroup00
PV Size 8,34 GB / not usable 0
  Allocatable yes
  PE Size (KByte) 32768
  Total PE 267
