The exact problem is: "Lilo has been removed".

Software developers (other than Redhat's) recognise lack of reliability
as a problem.  That's one of the reasons why we have system, alpha and
beta testing after unit and link testing.  (Your terminology may vary.)

There's a very simple and inexpensive fix for this problem: restore
Lilo.  Nobody is forced to use Lilo.  Lilo can be hidden from newbies. 
It just needs to be there for those of us who need a reliable,
predictable, and documented boot-loader.
