Here is what I got for comparison.  My sound works with the mod you
tried.  Are you sure you got the spelling and capitalization correct on
your entry into the blacklist ie snd-intel8x0m ?  It has worked for 3
others that I know of.  What kernel/distro are you running ?  Have you
applied your updates ?

$ system-config-soundcard
Simple mixer control 'PCM',0
  Capabilities: pvolume pswitch pswitch-joined
  Playback channels: Front Left - Front Right
  Limits: Playback 0 - 31
