I get an error when playing a DVD with mplayer: alsa-control: mixer attach /dev/mixer error no such file or directory. It thinks that /dev/mixer isn't available. ls -al /dev/mixer crw------- 1 <me> root 14, 0 Nov 14 04:23 /dev/mixer However: alsamixer runs just fine. It turns out the video sound was disabled.
