Thanks.
It looks to me like somebody has already started a similar/same bug
report for a previous edition of the kernel:
http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2769
so i tacked on some comments. The maintainer seems to think the problem
should have been solved by kernel-2.6.7. I hope the developers would
rather have these related things on the same bug report, or else I've
wasted their time.

The short and sweet is that CDs fail to mount and the message (over and

kernel: hdc: irq timeout: status=0xd0 { Busy }
kernel: hdc: irq timeout: error=0xd0LastFailedSense 0x0d
kernel: hdc: DMA disabled
kernel: hdc: ATAPI reset complete
Its interesting that ide-scsi works here and ide-cd doesn't.
advised to use ide-cd instead. But that doesn't work. And I've read
people saying that cd writing is bad with ide-scsi.
Its not "bad", its just an uglier interface.
hdc: _NEC DVD+RW ND-5100A, ATAPI CD/DVD-ROM drive
You might want to also add a bug to bugzilla.kernel.org for this, and
let Jens Axboe/Bartlomiej know too - its an interesting bug and one I've
not seen elsewhere.
The other "need ide-scsi" cases are multichangers and we understand that
fine
