ok, no joy on this at all.
It does try to get to 1600 but the screen blanks and nothing ever
appears. I still don't get why I can pick 1600 in the system settings
but not in preferences, and why refresh of 60 shows up in preferences
instead of 85.

been struggling with this for weeks, but just loaded the true nvidia
drivers last night, they are nice at least, but I'd like that last bump
to 1600x1200 res.
