Installing DB2 on FC

DB2 8.2 will install and run correctly on any FC if the following workarounds are used. If you are using 8.1 discs then install but do not start DB2. This means you can't use the tools database. Install any additional clients at the 8.1 level. Then immediatelly, without reboot, install FP7. If you are using 8.2 discs then install them. There are several lines that DB2 inserts in the db2inst1 .bashrc file. These lines run configuration on login. Normally the lines are copied to the user .bashrc file. A bug in either DB2 or FC keeps these lines from being executed. As a result you must create a script for each DB2 icon such as the control center and change the icon to run that script. The script simply runs the lines and then runs whatever is supposed to be started. With this workaround DB2 seems to run fine. We have not had time to find out if the bug is in FC or DB2 but this workaround fixes it.
