Hi Jan,
unless explicitly specified, the release criteria apply both to bare metal and virtual machines, so this criterion would apply to both as well. If it happens that sound from VMs is broken in general, but works on bare metal, it's a similar situation as when e.g. a certain audio chipset is affected on bare metal and all others work fine - it's a conditional violation. We would consider the problem during a blocker-review meeting, try to guess how many people it affects and whether there are some workarounds, and decide whether it should be a blocker (and at which stage) or not.
