You need to be registered with Freenode. See
https://freenode.net/kb/answer/registration . This is due to issues
with spam.

Boot with '3' kernel arg, that should get you to a console where you
can log in and poke around a bit to try and figure out what's going on
- look at the logs from the failed boot, and so on.
