Maybe it is someting related to this bug?

and, this time, the (massive) download succeeded, at which time i ran:
$ sudo dnf system-upgrade reboot
the result of which was to ... hang. black screen. the laptop was
still powered up (backlit keyboard was still backlit), but nothing on
the screen, even after i left it for a while just to make sure it
wasn't simply taking a long time.
eventually, i power-cycled and it came back to fedora 29. tried it
again, exactly same result. i'm loath to try it a third time without
at least a vague idea as to what might be going on.
is there a log file that i can examine? open to other suggestions as
well.
