What I'm finding so far is that regressing to 3.18.9 resolved the
problem, so it may be more of a general i915 bug than a Wayland bug.

With 4.0.0 kernels I get this i915 related kp, every reboot and
everytime I switch to console - and I don't think Wayland is running
in either such case. This also is resolved by regressing to kernel
3.18.9.
