After a period of troubleshooting I discovered a piece of software call
Modem-Manager
was messing with the serial port I had my legacy 4016 storage tube
terminal attached.
A Google search located messages from people wanting to get rid of the
package.
I finally moved the executable to a "foo" subdirectory, allowing agetty
to work for the 4016.
Shouldn't there be a control GUI for this thing that controls its
operation, or at least
make it stop thrwowing a spanner in the works?
