This issue sounds familiar. There have been discussions about whether the floppy driver should be loaded by default, because with some BIOS' booting can take several minutes to determine that there really isn't an attached floppy drive.

Disabling the floppy controller in the BIOS when that aren't any floppy drives attached to it helps in many cases.
