Hey, folks - just wanted to make sure anyone who's interested is in
the loop. The anaconda team has been working to try and get live
installation working with the newUI changes, but right now they don't
think it'll be possible to have it ready in time for F18 Alpha, at
least without slipping again. They don't think it can be done by next
Wednesday.
So, if we wanted to release the Alpha on current schedule (just 1
week slip), it'd have to be with no live images, or with
non-installable live images. If we want installable live images for
Alpha, we'd have to slip at least another week.
That feels like a 'policy' decision to me, so I've filed a ticket
with FESCo to discuss it at their next meeting:
So you just went ahead and filed a ticket *before* we could decide
this any other feelings you have that you just go ahead with.
Any Fedora contributor can raise an issue to the attention of FESCo. It
does not need to be done with any more 'official' standing than that, or
to be done on behalf of a Fedora group, project or SIG. There's nothing
inappropriate about me, as an individual Fedora contributor, asking
FESCo to take a look at this issue. I did not have any intention to
suggest, nor do I think I did suggest, that I was speaking on behalf of
anyone but myself. I notified this list about the ticket since it seemed
obvious that people subscribed to the list would have an interest in it.
Maybe we
should just start dropping installation test cases and other criteria
since it is pretty apparent that Anaconda wont meet them in time no
wait they already tried to do that...
I tried to present every possible course of action in response to the
issue for discussion in the ticket. I couldn't dictate any particular
outcome of FESCo's discussion in any case, but insofar as I could
suggest possible actions they might take, I tried to present all that
are vaguely feasible. I certainly included the option of delaying the
F18 release. I did not in any way attempt to influence them in the
direction of waiving criteria in order to follow the schedule.
This is yet another warning sign that the *new* installer is not in
ready enough shape for F18 and should be delayed to F19...
That's certainly one thing to think about, yes. I'm sure the wider
topic will come up in the discussion.
