The problem is not that the drive is taking too long to unmount -- "mount" shows that it has been unmounted, the "Unmount" menu item changes to "Mount", and "sync" returns basically immediately -- but rather that (a) there is no indication in nautilus that the drive has been successfully unmounted, because its icon and label don't change, (b) the LED stays on, which means that the drive itself isn't telling me that it has been successfully unmounted, unlike on Windows where the LED turns off as expected, and (c) there is no "Safely Remove" command, so I have no idea whether "Unmount", "Eject", or some combination of the two is what I need to do to safely remove the device.https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=819492 There is a reason why it's called "Safely Remove" on Windows. That terminology means something to users. "Unmount" and "Eject" do not, at least not for an USB drive ("Eject" at least means something for a CD/DVD drive). jik |
